fox 10 news at 5:00 starts now. this is a fox 10 news alert. that news alert involves phoenix fire crews and southwest gas. right now they are working to control an underground gas leak in phoenix. we are talking underground. this video, from the incident people are being asked to avoid this area between the i-17 and 27th avenue. rather, that's 17th and 27th avenues. no one has been hurt, but a few businesses in this area have been forced to close. we'll keep you updated as we learn more. thanks so much for joining us on fox 10 news at 5:00.

in scottsdale officially opened its doors. of course, this venue has been called a next generation facility, offering visitors a hands-on experience with the dolphins. but the facility hasn't been without some controversy. several protests have been held during the construction of the project. demonstrators say these mammals should not be held in captivity. and today, two protests were held just blocks from dolphinaris. fox 10's stefania ok >> reporter: yeah, linda, as you said, a lot of controversy leading up to the opening, the grand opening which was today, of dolphinaris. but even on the day of the grand opening, these protesters did not back down. they are still out here right now, even with dolphinaris being about to close in just about an hour. now they are holding their signs here. you can see tanks are cruel, cruelty is not entertainment. they are totally against these dolphins being held in captivity, despite what trainers

very safe option. these folks say that it's absolutely cruel, and they don't want it going on. on the day of an exciting grand opening of dolphinaris arizona. >> dolphins free, az! >> they linedie -- the >> dolphins should not be held in captivity away fro homes. >> inside dolphinaris, you can swim with them, kiss them, take pictures with them, and even become a dolphin trainer for a day. they promise an amazing and inspiring experience that will also educate the guests, but to these animal rights activists, it's just not right. >> this is no way to do this, by capturing animals, charging a huge fee and try to take pictures with them.

meanwhile, dolphinaris, it opened today, and it was packed as well, closing at 5:00. it will be open again tomorrow. live in scottsdale this evening, i'm stefania okolie, fox 10 news. >> stefania, thank you. on to a developing story, phoenix police have caught a suspect in a deadly stabbing last night. officers say at about 8:30 last night, 36-year-old robert pruitt was stabbed and killed near 19th avenue and peoria. now, according to suspect has been identified as 38-year-old olen coho. he was arrested earlier today. they say he cut pruitt after he got into some sort of argument. the two new each other and he has been booked into custody on charges of second-degree murder murder. a deadly head-on crash sent

and it's gotten so much worse. you can see these pictures from skyfox flying over the scene near 59th avenue and camelback. firefighters had to cut the four patients from the car. well, sadly, we have learned that a teenage girl and boy hurt in this crash have died. a third person was also taken to the hospital and has serious injuries. the driver of the other vehicle did stay on the scene and is now in police custody. officers think impairment may have been a factor. in the border battle, border patrol says two women were arrested this week trying to smuggle nearly $125,000 worth of marijuana into the u.s. agents say a narcotics detection dog found 216 pounds of pot hidden in a cadillac that was being driven by a 22-year-old douglas woman. later officers found 33 pounds

a mercedes driven by a 33-year-old woman. both were turned over to homeland security for further investigation. police are asking for your help also finding a couple of suspects and a robbery here in the valley. let's start with a suspect who robbed a phoenix home. the suspect robbed the home back in august and stole several items, including the victim' credit cards. now, the suspects used that credit card at a toys r us and at a walmart you are looking at some sort of surveillance stills from those stores. the stores have now listed the man as a person of interest, though that looks like a woman to me. police say that they are hoping to track down the woman seen with him at the store. okay. so this is the woman who was with the suspect. they think that she might know about the crime or at least where the male suspect is. > the male suspect is the one who was using the credit cards, and we are trying to identify

also a female investigative lead in the video, and all that means is we believe she has information about the crime or who the male is. >> on to another robbery. this one police are looking for a man who is accused of robbing two convenience stores in about the same area at about the same time. the suspect robbed a circle k about two weeks ago near 39th street and southern, and then about a week later he robs the circle k near 39th street and broadway. the suspect holds up the employees at gunpoint. you see him there demanding money. police are hoping that the public might recognize this guy. >> this particular suspect has a tattoo of someone's name on the left side of his neck and a tattoo on his right biceps, so that's going to jog someone's memory. but the fact that he is hitting at the same time at the same location probably means he lives close to the area too. >> if you have any information

? >> reporter: donald trump began a renewed push over the weekend suggesting that the presidential election is rigged against him. the republican presidential candidate tweeting,, quote, "this election is being rigged by the media, pushing false and unsubstantiated charges and outright lies in order to elect crooked hillary." trump also denied new allegations from women accusing him of sexual assault, claiming the allegations are part of a conspiracy by the clinton campaign and media saying, quote, "100 percent fabricated and made up charges pushed strongly by the media and clinton campaign may poison the minds of the american voter. fix." and speaking in new hampshire on saturday, trump made a new attack on hillary, inferring she was on drugs in the last debate. >> she's getting pumped up for wednesday night. i don't know what's going on with her. but at the beginning of our last

russian counterpart in switzerland. a cease fire in syria between the government and rebels was brokered just last month, but that quickly collapsed. syrian and russian governments have been offensive against rebel held parts of the war torn city of aleppo. last week, secretary kerry accused russia of war crimes for targeting hospitals and civilian infrastructure in that country. the talks for a cease fire is joint effort, including top diplomats from saudi arabia, iran, turkey, qatar, egypt and jordan. it's been a beautiful day out there. i hope you have got big plans for tomorrow. i think you may like it just as much. find out about your work week

you're watching the best, fox 10 news. southern states hit by hurricane matthew earlier this month still have a long way to go to be totally recovered. many residents were displaced after flooding damaged their homes. meanwhile, the pacific northwest is now facing the threat of more storms. fox news correspondent bryan llenas with that story. >> reporter: not one but two tornados striking oregon's coast west of portland on friday morning as the state braces for what's forecast to be brutal and dangerous weather this weekend along the pacific northwest, more heavy rain and strong winds. look at this, an f2 tornado with winds of at least 125 miles per hour coming ashore yesterday morning, striking manzanita

power lines, at one point leaving 15,000 residents without power. the tornado uprooting trees, damaging businesses and homes, witnesses describe hearing a freight train like noise. luckily there were no deaths or injuries. a second twister hit about an hour south in ocean side but caused no damage. >> a friend of mine said, oh, my god, look out the window, and we looked out and there was a funnel cloud coming right across the ocean towards >> i looked out, heard a roar, just like all of the footage we see around texas all the time. it's, like, oh, many i gosh, there's a tornado. >> strong winds could gust to 50 miles an hour as strong rain threatens to bring mudslides and flooding alongment i-5 corridor in washington and oregon, this as the southeast is still recovering from hurricane matthew a week after the storm,

the death toll in the tar heel state rising to 26 after two more people were found submerged in vehicles in cumberland and wayne county. flood waters as high as ten feet are receding, and the long road to recovery begins. >> there's still many, many difficult days ahead for north carolina and many of our citizens who are being impacted by this incredible hurricane that has been over ten days. >> friday, judges in florida and north carolina ordered extension of voter registration deadlines in affected counties. hurricane matthew killed at least 43 people in the u.s. bryan llenas, fox news. yea, cory in on a rare weekend, and we are going through a warm october, which isn't very rare.

just what's left of it. nevertheless, still pretty potent. we'll move on, give you a look at your numbers, 94 in yuma, 75 in prescott, a perfect 66 in flagstaff, and we have got 68 degrees over in show low. here in the valley, these numbers all look warm too. boy, tonight, come on, mesa, 97? don't try to outdo everybody. nobody is happy with your performance. 89 in surprise. be more like surprise, the mesa of the west valley. anyway, here's a record book, typically we are supposed to top out at 89, so we are overachieving to say the least. 103 your record, that coming in 1991. a quick look at that storm, and again you can see how tightly wound it is. it just continues to crank its way here through the gulf of alaska, and you can see the cold front extending from it, very strong winds. gusts of up to 100 miles an hour at times. you have seen the damage, and of course you have heard about

causing all kinds of trouble there in oregon. so it's going to be that kind of a stretch there until this storm is again done. good for us, although we could use the rain. that is going to cruise pretty much in an easterly direction, so i have a feeling we won't be seeing much of that storm. we are going to keep our numbers kind of on the warm side as we'll be on the south side of that action. so 67 for yuma tonight, 51 in payson, mid-40s up at the south rim, and 49 in douglas, and then here comes your sunday, 94 out yuma way, 91 for bullhead and about 80 degrees in sedona. so here in the valley, this is what you can go for, mid-60s tonight. very warm one tomorrow, 95 degrees. gosh, that's so warm for october. but on we go into your extended forecast. any relief for you there? well, maybe a bit as we get into the latter part of next week, sunday and then beyond. we may actually dip to about 90 or a bit below, but, again, it's going to be a warm ride until then. so that's it for me. more weather of course coming up

new zika zone has been declared in miami-dade county in that state. the florida department of health identifying five people, two women and three men, who've contracted the virus in this new zone, which spans a square mile. >> i have been worried because it was in south beach, but i didn't know that it was going to make it way down here. that's crazy. >> we are kind of surprised, and we are doing what the city does whenever there is a case of zika within the >> the city seat says the state currently has a total of 155 cases of nontravel-related zika. congress recently approved more than a billion dollars in support, but florida governor rick scott says the state still hasn't seen any of that money. across america, three men are now behind bars for plotting a bombing attack on somali refugees in kansas.

8-month uncover investigation. fox news correspondent will carr has details >> reporter: fbi agents say that this investigation took them into a hidden culture of both hate and violence. they say all three men were part of a militia group called the crusaders, an antigovernment, anti-muslim, anti-illegal immigrant group. allen, stein, and wright were all arrested after they to bomb an apartment complex in garden city kansas, home to 120 somali residents, one apartment used as a mosque. one told an fbi investigator that he wanted to carry out an attack like the orlando nightclub shooting and using car explosives, parking four cars in the parking lot of the apartment
